About Us 

Onitsha Ado Young Professionals USA is an association, made up of the Young Adults, in the U.S. We all grew up, coming out with our parents to Onitsha events. Weather if it was a local chapter meeting, a wake keeping, a wedding, or a gala. Our first introduction to Africa was Onitsha culture, and its rich heritage. What bought us together, mostly, was the  annual national conventions, the community use to have. These were outlets for us to see relatives and family friends we don’t get to see everyday. It was not only an experience for us, but a family reunion for all.

In 2017, there was an initiative to bring us youth together. Rally and network with one another, in hopes of forming our own group and taking over what our parents start years ago. Through time we communicated Via Whatsapp and other social media outlets. Networking, debating, and just enjoying each and what we had to offer. In 2020, a few youths went above and beyond to take the initiative to start meeting face to face. As we met and decided to try and plan a 3 day gala event, like those of the olden days.

 

We partnered with the Onitsha Unity movement, in hopes to have some adult guidance, to have a second event. Due to the covid 19 pandemic our efforts were derailed, however as resilient as we are, we didn’t let that stop our goal. In summer 2020, we tested our goal by hosted a 3 day virtual convention via zoom. It was a success, as 100 people from all over the globe collectively logged in and had a great time.
In 2021, we were pushed to continue, and had our 2nd annual meet up, or like we dubbed it, “ Onitsha Ado Family Fun Event’’. Via zoom again, due to covid restrictions. Virtual yet a memorable event to say the least. We still, however, were eager to establish and plan that family reunion we once loved from the olden days.
Our main goal today is to establish the youth, young leaders, and professionals of today. With this association we will plan events, and strive to continue our culture for ourselves and the future. In addition, we will work on building our community, in a way we can be as strong as ever.
